In 1999, my new bride and I moved to Salt Lake City. We enjoyed the area and found new beauty in the mountains. I even continued sailing on the Great Salt Lake, my love of water has never waned. Our time there culminated in a volunteer effort with the American Red Cross during the 2002 Winter Olympics. Coming just months after 9/11, it was a challenging assignment, but began my love of volunteering.
We moved back to the New York City suburbs, had two kids, and I began to tell them stories every night. My favorite was The Naughty List. After many years, I finally published the book in 2019. Along the way, my volunteering grew to help many local environmental groups. I now serve as the Chair of the Ringwood Environmental Commission.
Today I am partially retired from my day job. This gives me the time to pursue many opportunities. I run our Cupsaw Lake’s environmental Social Media page and get the chance to showcase its natural beauty. I have taken a few environmental courses, most recently involved in the Rutgers Environmental Steward Program.
I am fortunate to follow my passions. Environmental stewardship, photography, writing, business leadership development, and my family. Please reach out if I can help in any of these fields.
Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought I would win an award for writing. I do write a lot, but most of my writing was in the field of business process. More recently, I have drafted environmental briefs to educate people on simple ways to help preserve the natural beauty that surrounds us all.

A few years ago, I finally decided to write down one of the stories I told my kids at Christmastime. It was a simple story about Christmas: Santa gets taken away by an evil toy company. The elves are too innocent to fight. They recruit “naughty” kids to help their effort. Along the way, everyone comes to realize that all kids will sometimes be naughty, but underneath we are all good people. Of course, Christmas is saved. It was bedtime after all.
About 5 years ago, I took a leave from work. I was able to finally put pen to paper and write the entire story in my head. It was long! I worked with an editor and the story is still over 80,000 words, but that is as short as it can get. I sat on the book for another four years and finally took the plunge and published it. It felt like I pushed my baby bird out of the nest and watched it fall.
Then people began to buy the book. No records got threatened, but those who read it gave me the most reassuring feedback I could have ever hoped for. I entered the book late into a competition and could only compete in the broad E-Book Fiction category. I won!
Many people are plagued by doubt and anxiety. Writing a book is like opening a window into your soul and exposing it to the world. I am no exception, but having crossed that threshold, I feel empowered to take my writing skills and apply it to my other passions.

First among those is the local Ringwood environment. I have tried for years to unite our community, but our politicians like to use the trouble to their own advantage. You see, Ringwood is the only site in the country that has been delisted and added back. There is a silent genocide happening here and I want to remove the silent part and hope our nation will join to stop the genocide. It is a tall order, but one I think I can help with.
I have other projects in mind. I am working with various environmental groups to help get their mission widely circulated. The challenge in today’s world is the short attention span of most consumers. I continually adjust to this by creating three forms. First is the 100 to 200-word Social Media hook. That links to a one to two-page document. Finally, that document ends with the long reads as links at the end.
Big plans, but if I don’t dream big, I will just get stuck in a rut. It is not all dreams though. I am taking classes and reaching out to people. I continue to create content and aim to maximize the delivery of the same. I have taken a few select matters and made them a priority. Please follow my work and give feedback. This is our planet and I could use all the help I can get to make it a little nicer.
